Joint Manipulation

This is another great topic of great proportions. Science has had a hay day with the Western scientist dismissing in general the whole concept of joints determining the flow of nerve conduction and the relative health or decease of the body. Lets first talk about the evolution of joint manipulation and why they at the time thought it worked.

The story starts between India and China around 5000 years by the ancient text on bodily repair. Chinese Doctors to the Chin Dynasty report cracking of the bones to be beneficial for chi to flow through the meridians that dictate our daily health. This was not offered to the public only the scholars and head of the dynasty. Then a form of therapeutic massage became apparent called Tui Na and Tai Massage that incorporated moving fascia, muscle and the joints integrity to maximal ranges of motion while pre and post massage was being conducted. The soldiers loved it and fought harder knowing they had the recovery methods at hand. Then the Shaolin temple or Silam monastery advocated the monks and nuns to conduct the joint manipulations after having a hard work out and massage. This is done exactly the same way today with the Doctors of Oriental Medicine/Acupuncture. The Persians then adopted it in a document from Zoraster; they handed it to the Babylonians, who shared it with the Greeks and Egyptians. I must note that the Incas had this in their writing 5000 before the Greeks and that puts a new light on the evolution in general. But the sequence give or take a hundred years, has dictated years of joint manipulation. The French when studying the Chinese kept it secrete for years so the English wouldn’t claim it for their own. But it was the modern day Germans who brought Osteopathy and joint manipulation to a Canadian Western Doctor named Palmer from Port Perry of all places, who made it into a modern day event. Palmer learned unannounced Osteopathy’s joint manipulation technique and applied it to some of his patients to the c-spine and found relief for some. Word got round that he was doing this and the Medical Ass. Reprimanded him. Palmer continued to perform this ancient technique and was kicked out of the medical ass. Palmer went to the US with all the charlatans of his time. And established a College with luck, he was persecuted there as well. But his foundation became known in North America as Chiropractic, which means in Greek laying of hands.

Now the Palmers of the old day only manipulated the C-spine nothing else. The modern day Chiro’s manipulate everything. But never forget where it came from and who perfected the technique that was handed down thousands of years ago, it was the Chinese, Indians, Thais. So never take criticism from professors telling you that there education is higher and better defined. The journey has been a long one and modern everything is not better, its too infantile to compare. Feel it out for yourself.

All things being persistent will exist by consistency alone. It’s a sort of genetic lobbying of sorts. Cry enough and you will get the attention and recognition.

Many more health practitioners get into the field for money more than love. Test them with the consistency they give you, by asking if they give free advice or manipulation, then ask for a donation. I have a great respect for the past and the ancient arts but unless they cry like the Chiro’s they will go unnoticed. You can trust the past experience of knowing and knowledge but to trust something because its 55 years old and claims by many to be the cure all are insane. Stick to manipulation carefully tactfully, you don’t need it daily, maybe weekly and most likely monthly. All else is a money grab for suckers. Don’t be suckered.

The joints integrity should be tight range of motion permitted and not excessively mobile. If you get to mush manipulation you become hyper mobile and induce pre- arthritic conditions in years to come.
